We believe children flourish when given freedom within boundaries. At Wynwood, children are active contributors to their own learning — educators facilitate, observe, and gently guide. We encourage independence, responsibility, and passion for discovery.

Should a child become ill or injured while at the facility, parents/guardians will be called. If parents are not at home, the emergency contact list will be used. For the well-being of each child, we ask that you keep your child at home should he/she display any of the following symptoms:
• Fever over 38.3℃
• Any complained of unexplained or undiagnosed pain
• Cold with fever, runny nose, teary eyes, coughing, or sore throat
• Difficulty in breathing: Wheezing or persistent cough
• Sore throat or trouble swallowing
• Infected skin or eye, or undiagnosed rush
• Headache and stiff neck
• Diarrhea, vomiting, or upset stomach
• Severe itching of body and scalp
• Children with known or suspected communicable diseases or viruses.
Please ensure that your child has been symptom-free of fever, diarrhea and/or vomiting for at least 24 hours- for children from 3- 5 years old, and 48 hours for children 1-3 years old-before bringing the child back to the Centre.
If the parent is not sure of the nature to your child’s illness or infection, please contact the Centre before the child can return to class.
In the case of serious illness or communicable disease, the Centre requires a doctor’s note before the child can return to class.
Emergency Plan & Procedure
This emergency plan is intended to develop and practice a plan to address a variety of emergency situations such as fire, flood, and earthquake. Children will be prepared for what is expected of them to do.
Fire Drill
• Announce to the children to STOP what they are doing and that we are conducting a Fire Drill. Teachers/staff members are asked to use a bell & their voice.
• Instruct the children to line up at the door.
• Follow the evacuation procedures above.
Earthquake Drill
• It will be announced to the children to STOP what they are doing and that we are conducting an Earthquake Drill. Teachers/staff members are asked to use their voice.
• Children will be instructed to move quickly and take cover under the tables or to brace themselves in a doorway.
• Everyone should cover their head and face in a crouch position and face away from windows.
• Count to 60 and wait until the shaking has stopped.
• Wait 10 minutes when the earthquake is over, for aftershocks, before evacuating the building.
• Instruct the children to line up and follow the evacuation plan
Nutrition Policy
Parents are required to provide a balanced nutritious lunch for their children. Meals are served family style with thank you song and staff sitting with the children and engaging them in conversation during meal times. No child is denied a meal for any reason other than written medical direction. No child will be forced or otherwise coerced to eat against his/her will.
It is our goal to make mealtime as pleasant and as stress free as possible for the children and staff alike. Teachers will inform the parent if we have any concerns about the eating habits of any children in our care. Food will never be used as a reward or punishment. Children will never be denied a reasonable request for food.
During lunch, children will be prompted to eat the healthier portions of their lunch first. This is to promote healthy and appropriate eating habits.
In the event of a “rushed” morning, parents/guardians are welcome to bring the child’s breakfast food to the Centre to allow the child to eat breakfast at the Centre. Breakfast if a very important meal that no child should miss.
Please avoid packing candies, chocolate, pop, or excessively sweet foods with your child’s lunch or snack. Infant’s and toddler’s food need to be cut into small bite sizes, ready to serve them.
A microwave is available for warming up lunches, provided that lunch is brought in a microwavable container. If parents/guardians prefer that we do not use the microwave, then we ask that the child’s lunch be sent in a thermos so that the food/drink stays warm. Each child should be provided with a separate lunch kit and lunch kits should be provided with an ice pack. All food and dairy will be kept in the fridge at all times except leftovers after lunch and all food and dairy go in lunch kits after the last snack of the day, hence the importance of an ice pack.
Allergies
Please ensure the Centre is informed of any allergies your child may have, as this could lead to serious problems if we are unaware, and your child suffers an allergic reaction. We will require parents to complete an Allergies Medicinal Form so staff can follow the treatment plan as stated in the form.
We have a NO NUT policy. Please ensure that any foods bright into the Centre are nut free.
Visitor Policy
All visitors are required to sign in in the classroom visitor log book, recording the date and time of arrival, purpose for visit, and sign out with a time of departure.
Our classroom environment has been carefully designed and prepared to meet the development needs of children. A very delicate balance occurs between the child, teacher, and the environment as they work together to support the child’s growth and learning. It can interfere with the atmosphere of independence and concentration in the classroom.
We ask all the visitors respect the children and the classroom. The teacher will guide visitors into appropriate areas to sit and observe. Visitor should remain seated and restrain from engaging in conversation or activity with the children.
In the case of parents, student teachers, and volunteers, the teachers will direct visitors to appropriate activities within the classroom where they can become involved such as sharing a special skills or cultural information during circle time, listening to children read, or directing a special activity.
